International Society of Hematology

The International Society of Hematology (ISH) was founded in 1946 and is the professional body concerned with advancing scientific research as well as the practice of hematology at both clinical and laboratory levels. ISH also looks alter the interests of hematologists and hematology in its organizational and political aspects. ISH membership is open to any person with medical or scientific qualification of good professional standing with active interest in hematology for a period of at least 5 years. ISH has over 4.000 active members, worldwide.

Aims and Objectives

A- Provide an international forum for discussion of hematological problems by contributing to
    the creation of an academic, scientific and research network for hematology to:

  • Improve the technology of hematological diagnosis and clinical practice in the different hematological subspecialties.
  • Strengthen the academic communications between universities.
  • Increase of exchange between research groups and industry.
  • Promote education in basic hematological technology and contribute to improvement in the practice of hematology in developing countries.

B- Encourage scientific investigations of hematological problems.
C- Promote the advancement of hematology and its recognition as a branch of the biological
    sciences.
D- Standardize hematological methods and nomenclature on an international scale.
E- Facilitate faster and better understanding of the basic scientific principles of hematology
    among scientific investigators, practitioners and general physicians.

Science and Education

  • Postgraduate education and training programs in hematology.
  • Training programs for medical technologists.
  • Training for the primary and intermediate health care nevels, particularly in developing countries.

Nomenclature, Terminology, Quantities and Units

  • Harmonization of hematological terms and units.
  • Standardization of hematological nomenclature.

Scientific Committee

  • Establish high scientific standard at the Divisional Meetings.
  • Encourage work to contribute to the creation of an academic, scientific and research network for hematology in three divisions.
